Vodka Production: Walking Through The Art Of Making Vodka.

Vodka Production 101. How Vodka Is Made?

The first step of vodka production. What is Vodka? Vodka is a neutral spirit that does not has any aroma, flavour, colour, or character. Vodka can be produced from any raw material. While, most commonly, vodka is prepared from grains( barley, wheat, rye, or corn) or potatoes which is an old traditional method, However, some of the countries are still using these ingredients. Vodka is refined from a wide range of ingredients such as honey, apples, rice, agave, maple sugar, milk, whey, or beets.

The history of vodka production is not very interesting like its flavour profile. There is not much information available about the spiritual origins. But, Poland is known for the vodka origins where first distilling was taken place back in the 8th century. Neutral spirits were used for gun powder as well as medicinal purposes during the middle ages. After that in the 15th century, Russia begins to produce pot-distilled vodkas. In 1800, a major change was seen in vodka. It was the first time that the producers begin to effectively produce nearly flavour-free spirit.

The first steps of vodka production.

So, up till now, we are well aware of the ingredients of the vodka, such as grains, fruits, or vegetables as well. But, how vodka is prepared from it? What is the next process? So, let’s discuss the preparation steps of vodka.

Distillery near me

The base product is fermented in the first step. The selected ingredients for vodka are passed through the fermentation process. In the next step, the Distillation of the fermented material occurs. Vodka is distilled for a minimum of three times, or maybe five times depending on the method used. Because distillation occurs several times in its preparation. Vodka is known as the rectified spirit.

Have you ever noticed in the advertisement adds of vodka, that they usually highlight the number of distillation procedures for the consumers. Distillation is a sign of the cleaner and pure end product. Keep in mind that vodka is not just the fermented and distilled product of grains, vegetables, or fruits. Instead, it also contains a significant amount of water in it.

Vodka is filtered through charcoal to get rid of any impurities after the process of distillation gets complete. After that, vodka is cut with water and packed in bottles to transfer to stores or other venues. Vodka does not need to set for sometimes or age unlike beer wine or other spirits. After the filtering process is complete, it can be safely bottled and served straight.

It is necessary that the vodka must have some content of alcohol of around 37% to 40% in most countries and continents to be sold on venues and shelves. Drinking vodka neat( without any sort of mixture) is considered as the traditional way in many European countries.

In the purest and the most traditional form, vodka should have no colour, taste, or odour. But, what you taste and smell usually depends on the vodka brand. Some of the vodka brands go down smoothly, however, some are felt harsh on the tongue.
